Principal's Post

Dear Community of St Columba’s,

We can always tell the end of the year is approaching when EDUDANCE lessons begin. This program brings great enjoyment to our students as they learn new movements, build confidence, and have fun. Please note this program acts as your child’s classroom sport activity for the week.

Thank you to our Year 3 Team for revisiting part of your assembly item this week. We appreciate the extra effort made to ensure the whole school could enjoy your performance, after last term’s inclement weather forced the assembly to be moved into the Parish Hall for a smaller audience. Your message, inspired by Shakira’s song Try Everything, was uplifting and beautifully delivered. It reminded us of the importance of perseverance, courage, and embracing challenges.

“Birds don’t just fly, they fall down and get up.”

“I want to try even though I could fail.”

School Disco

A thank you to our dedicated P&F and all the volunteers who helped make last Friday night’s School Disco such a fantastic event. It was a wonderful way to begin the term, filled with laughter and energy. The new initiative of the photobooth was especially well received and created lasting memories for our students. We are grateful for your time, creativity, and commitment to our school community.

This recognition reflects not only academic achievement but also leadership, character, and a commitment to learning. We celebrate this milestone with you and look forward to all that you will accomplish in the next chapter of your educational journey.

School Disco 2025 – What a Night!

They say it takes a village & yup they are right. Events like these are so often underestimated in how much time and effort go in behind the scenes, both before & during the night. Words honestly can’t express how grateful we are for the incredible support we received.  After countless hours of prep (and literally hundreds of WhatsApp messages! ), it all came together & those big smiles on the kids’ faces made every bit of it worth it.

417 tickets sold – what a turnout!

A massive thank you to our PF Disco Sub-Committee – Bridie, Steph, Melissa, Davina, Courtney, Justine and Sarah  — you’re absolute superstars!

To our amazing volunteers & every single person who stepped in to help when they noticed we could do with extra help YOU are the heart of this school community. Thank you for showing up and pitching in!

Special shout-outs:
Courtney + Tammy – how good was the photo backdrop – next level, thank you
DJ Shaun & Natalia from Perth Party Hire – you brought the vibe!
IGA Local Grocer Bayswater & British Sausage Co. – thank you for your generous support.

To Gina, Leesa & Niall – thank you for being there on the night & helping keep everything in check!

And to LESTON, our very own legendary sausage sizzle KING – you’ve been behind the BBQ at every event for many years. Your presence, your effort, your dedication – we can’t thank you enough. You’ll be so missed as your last year at St Col’s!

We truly hope your kids had the best night – glowing, sparkling, dancing, & making special memories with friends. Their were some epic dance moves & they all looked absolutely gorgeous!!  Our hearts are full after seeing all the laughter, joy & community spirit. From beginning to end, it was truly was a great night

Class News

From our Music Classes – Pre Primary to Year 2

This term, our junior musicians in Pre-Primary, Year 1, and Year 2 continue exploring musical elements such as beat, rhythm, pitch, tempo, and dynamics, using their growing knowledge to respond to a variety of music.

They’ll be listening carefully, identifying instruments and sounds, making connections to familiar places, occasions, or traditions, and expressing their personal responses through movement, drawing, and discussion.

Our classes will then conclude the year on a festive note by learning to play a popular Christmas song.

From our Music Classes – Year 3 – Year 6
Having fun making music together!

Children’s Week  Sun Safety TipsAs we move into the warmer months, outdoor play is a must. But remember to keep safe in the sun by following the 5 S’s:
  1. Slip on clothing that covers arms and legs.
  2. Slop on 50+ sunscreen.
  3. Slap on a broad-brimmed hat.
  4. Seek shade when possible.
  5. Slide on sunglasses to protect your eyes.

Special considerations for children with intellectual disabilities:

    • Offer drinks every 20 minutes to prevent dehydration.
    • Watch for signs of heat stress as some children may not communicate discomfort.
    • Loose, light clothing is ideal for hot days.
    • Children on medication may require extra care due to heat intolerance.
