Dear Community of St Columba’s School,
This week, Mr Banks organised our staff prayer, and as we approach Sports Carnival time, he has shared it with all classes. As with all aspects of school life, sports also provide a valuable chance for students to practice kindness and friendship, as highlighted in the URSTRONG Program.
Be KIND ON PURPOSE
Change of venue for Faction Athletics Carnival
Unfortunately, the school’s chosen venue for our annual Faction Athletics Carnival was no longer available for the date we had booked this for. As the date had been published well in advance, we decided to keep the date and seek an alternative venue. Please note this year’s Faction Athletics Carnival will be held at UWA Sports Park, McGillivray Road, Mount Claremont.

Enrolments are now open for the October Vacation Swim Program. The link is contained within this edition of the Donegal. Please click on the photo below.
St Columba’s School does not include Swimming Instruction as part of our program and parents are strongly encouraged to enrol their child/ren in either the Department of Education VacSwim Program or another private swim program.
I would like to collect information from our families about their preference for educating their child/ren to swim. Please click the link below to complete a quick survey. The link will be open for two weeks.

Religious Education and Curriculum News
From our Year 2 classes :
In R.E we have been exploring the unit Church and the concept of family. We are learning that Jesus also belonged to a family with Mary and Joseph. Jesus began a special family, called the Church. When the Church first began, the followers of Jesus came together in their homes to listen to people teach about Jesus and pray together. Nowadays, God’s family can gather in Church buildings. We have discussed what followers of Jesus do when they gather in the Church and the very important ways that people show respect in God’s holy place.
From our Year 1 classes :
This Term in Year 1, our focus is on the Eucharist, particularly our families. Jesus learned many things in his family. Mary and Joseph taught Jesus as he grew. They taught him good manners, respect for all people and how to care for the sick and lonely. They also taught Jesus how to pray and celebrate special holy days of their religion.
Our families have taught us many things:
- play with everyone
- play with people who are not their friends
- help others in their daily lives
- pray for others who need help
- say sorry when they have upset others
- forgive others who have upset them
- show kindness to all people, especially people who are not kind to them
Last week, we discussed the different members of our families and the importance each one of them, including our furry friends, have in our lives!
