Principal's Post

Dear Parents and Friends of St Col’s,

I know, Week 6, and it is flying. I thought it was Week 5. There are a few things on over the next few weeks, with plenty happening this time of year. Life is pretty busy as parents and as staff, and well, for our kids, yes, busy, busy. Just remember to try to be gentle on self and others and look after yourself.

A few things to catch-up on:

Student Leaders 2022

Our 2022 Student Leaders have been announced this week. We wish to congratulate all our students who have been selected for leadership. A big congratulations to all our Year 6 students who will lead in various ways throughout the year. A parent notice is attached to this newsletter with all the details.

End of Year Dance Concert

The End of Year Concert is set for Wednesday 1 December at 6.00 pm, Kindergarten to Year 6. This will be held in the Greg Martin Pavilion [undercover area]. Teachers will communicate specific details regarding their dances to parents.

Year 6 Final Assembly

On Friday 3 December, our Year 6 students will be presenting their final assembly. It is a busy time for the Year 6s as they prepare for secondary school, orientation days and their Graduation Mass in a couple of weeks.

End of Year Mass and Pre-Primary Nativity

Our Pre-Primary children will present the nativity on Thursday 2 December at 8.45 am at the end of year school Mass. Mass will be held in the undercover area. We will also farewell our children who will be leaving us at the end of the year to move to other schools and wish them an abundance of blessings. Once a St Col’s Kid. Always a St Col’s Kid.

St Vincent De Paul Christmas Hampers

Information regarding our Vinnies Christmas Hamper drive was sent home via seesaw a couple of weeks ago. A flyer is also attached to this newsletter.  The scheduled day for collection  is November 26, however this may need to change. Any changes will be advised via the newsletter and seesaw. We thank you for your support of families within our Bayswater area that will have their Christmas made so much brighter.

SQUID GAME on Netflix

It’s a global phenomenon that is highly popular at the moment. I thought I would send this information out as I have heard from parents that the Squid Game series may be being talked about at school. We have not been aware of anything happening in our playground, but there may be some chatter between students. We are assuming there is some innocence with the students hearing about the Netflix series, and would not have watched it. It is important that as parents, we monitor what our children may be accessing online. Our children can come across content accidentally. I have placed a link below from Claire Orange, the creator of Digii Social, if you wish for more information. This information below is directed towards upper primary children and teenagers.

Annual Community Meeting

On Wednesday 24 November, we will hold our Annual Community Meeting at 6.00 pm in the library. All parents are welcome to attend.

Chisholm College Canteen

Chisholm College canteen will be available as normal throughout the last weeks of term (Wednesday, Thursday and Friday). Please note that as the year winds down and supplies run low, orders placed may not be filled with exactly what was ordered, however students will receive items of similar nature/price instead. Chisholm canteen will endeavor to fill orders as best they can. We apologise for any inconvenience.

Wishing you a wonderful remainder of week.

In gratitude

Celebrate Bayswater Art Walk

The art walk launch will be held on Saturday 20 November from 11:30am, just outside the Laneway Artspace, next to the post office.

We hope to see some of the St Columba’s School community there to enjoy some live music, a children’s quiz activity and giveaways – and of course, the artworks!

Artworks include a 68m banner mesh mural along the site fencing on Whatley Crescent and decals on the shop frontages of IGA Xpress, both Evolve Bayswater site offices, Lay2 Real Estate, Bendigo Bank and Argon Business Partners Chartered Accountants. Please refer to the invite and map attached to this newsletter for more information.

As part of the launch, there will also be an exhibition at the Laneway Artspace (next to the newsagency) of the contributing artists from the art walk and a weaving activity led by Noongar artist, Sharyn Egan, for families to enjoy.

We have been advised by Kapture Photography that all portraits and class groups, sports and/or special team photos taken this year are still available for purchase.  Sports and or special group photos will not be available for viewing and purchase after this school year.
