Principal's Post

Dear Community of St Columba’s,

I want to take a moment to express my gratitude as the school term comes to an end. I can’t believe how quickly the term has gone by and I am so thankful for all the experiences and knowledge gained.

We’ve achieved so much this term.

Community Baptism Event

We are so proud of our Community Baptism Event that we have shared our initiative with the wider Catholic Education WA Community in this year’s Quality Catholic Education Awards.

We’d appreciate your support by voting for us so we can further promote the work we do in helping our students and families grow in their faith.

Faction Athletics Carnival

Congratulations to all students on the remarkable display of courage, effort, respect, and compassion during the recent Faction Athletics Carnival. Your sportsmanship was truly commendable, and it showcased not only your athletic abilities but also your outstanding character.

Congratulations to overall Faction Carnival Winners, McCauley, and Columbanus who were recipients of the Spirit Shield. My thanks to Physical Education Co-Ordinator Dylan Banks for all the co-ordination of the day and the dedication showed in assisting each child in the training.

Following the conclusion of the carnival, we were alerted to an inconsistency with the formula used by Timing Solutions to allocate Championship Points. We are sorry this occurred, and all Champion and Runner-Up Champions will be acknowledged at the final assembly for the term.

Sacrament of Confirmation

Congratulations to our Year 6 Students for their wonderful achievement in receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation last Friday evening. This is a significant milestone in your spiritual journey, and we are incredibly proud of your dedication and commitment.

May the Holy Spirit continue to guide you on your path and strengthen the gifts you have received during this special sacrament. Your faith and devotion are truly inspiring, and we have no doubt that you will use these gifts to make our communities and the world a better place for everyone.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the individuals who have played a crucial role in preparing our students for and celebrating this important sacrament – Father Andrew, Miss Clare Wright, Mr Jacob O’Reilly, Mrs Leesa Vinciullo, Mrs Kerry Smith, Mrs Marisa Perica, School Choir, and Altar Servers.

Once again, congratulations to our Year 6 students, and may your faith journey be filled with blessings and meaningful experiences.

School Compliance Review

At the commencement of the year in one of my first opening addresses, I announced this year the school was due for a Non-Government School Registration Audit. This compliance matter occurs every five years and is an agreement between the State Government and Catholic Education WA. The school needs to demonstrate compliance with all Registration Standards and as I wrote to the community, priority for any changes in the school would be those identified as part of the review.

At the last Catholic School Advisory Council Meeting I announced a successful outcome for the School’s Review.

All standards from the pillars of Education, Community, and Stewardship were covered, and below is a brief summary of what that looks like. You should be able to see a connection between these and the work that has been undertaken in the first half of this year, to not only meet registration requirements but to ensure our school remains a safe and high-quality educational environment.

If you would like further information, the Standards for Non-Government Schools is available publicly by the below link and I am available if you have any questions.

Thank you

I’m so appreciative of all the hard work the teachers and students have put into teaching and learning activities as well as all the co-curricular activities. It certainly was a huge term. I want to also extend my heartfelt thanks to the incredible staff, parents, and volunteers who have played a vital role in making this term so memorable. It’s their dedication and hard work that have made all these and more experiences possible.

Principal Absence

I will be absent from the school from Wednesday 20 September to Friday 22 September at the Catholic Primary Principal Conference. Mr Niall Kehoe will be Acting Principal on Wednesday and Friday. Mrs Leesa Vinciullo will be Acting Principal on Thursday whilst Mr Kehoe joins our Year 1 Team for their excursion.

Unfortunately, I will miss our Pre Primary Students at their Faction Carnival this Thursday. To all our students cheer loud, run fast and have a fantastic time everyone.

We return for the commencement of Term 4 on Monday 9 October. Our Year 6 Team will hit the ground running as they venture off to Waroona for their camp.

I wish you all a safe, happy, and peaceful term break. May you enjoy every moment and return refreshed and ready for the adventures next term.

In gratitude,

Gina Burns.

A huge thank you to all those that helped at the athletics carnival with the Cake Stall and the Sausage sizzle. The Cake stall raised nearly $1100 with all the generous donations people bought in for us to sell.

CAR PARK RAFFLE TO BE DRAWN AT ASSEMBLY THIS FRIDAY

TERM 4 Events

  • DISCO – This will be held on Friday 13th of October in the under cover area. More information will be out before the end of the week and tickets will on sale online.

Donations for the cake stall can be dropped of at the disco for those that are keen to get their aprons back on. • End of Year Concert – We will be holding a sausage sizzle at the end of the concert for those that don’t want to go home and cook dinner.
  • Christmas Raffle – We would like to do a Christmas Raffle that is more activity based for school holidays rather than toy based. If anyone has any contacts or ideas for prizes, please contact your class rep.

Religious Education and Curriculum News

From our Year Pre-Primary Classes:

The Pre Primary children have been learning about prayer. They discovered that, like Jesus, anyone can pray wherever and whenever they want. They’ve also realised that making prayer a regular part of their day is helpful. At school, they pray in the morning, before lunch, and at the end of the day. They even made special prayer stones to use while praying. In class, they’ve also talked about times when they felt sorry and shared those feelings in their own prayers during reflection time.
