PARKING
Just a quick reminder to parents picking their children up from Milne Street. Could those parents who are parked out of view from your child, park and then walk up to collect your child. Please do not wave your child to your car, nor park across the road and wave your child to the car. This is very dangerous. Teachers will dismiss children if walking home or if they are picked up by their parents from the gate or if parents are parked immediately outside the gate.
To make it a smoother operation along Milne Street, I ask all parents using this access to maybe enter Milne Street from the northern end, (railway end), and exit Milne Street along Almondbury Street.

Junior and Senior LUNCHTIMES
Students may also use this time to exchange their library book.
Just a reminder that students require the school green

Many students will already have the green school
‘’Homework and Library Bag’ from previous years.
‘Homework and Library Bags’ can be purchased
from the Uniform Shop at a cost of $10.

Library Lovers’ Day
14 February 2022
Remember the wonder you experienced when you first discovered something as a child? Maybe it was an idea, a place in nature, new understanding, or the pure joy of becoming lost in a new imaginary game for hours.
This feeling of childlike joy is the feeling that we’re encouraging people to remember this Library Lovers’ Day through the theme: ‘Show the love’.
It’s a day to remember that our libraries are a place where we can get lost in an idea we are following, find an adventure we are seeking in a book, discover more about an issue we feel passionate about or get help from someone about something we want to know. These are all the reasons (and more) to celebrate the valuable roles libraries play in our lives and to re-engage with our libraries and ‘show the love’.

The PC raffle will commence in week 3. The cost is 20c per ticket. 3 tickets being the maximum purchased. Rosters are published each week the Donegal and a copy of the roster is outside each classroom. Please remember the preferable prize is a book not exceeding the value of $10. It has always been the tradition to give a book of any description ie: colouring, joke or novel.
For the benefit of our new families to our wonderful school here’s an introduction about Pastoral Care.
Some years ago, a small group of parents established Pastoral Care at St Columba’s as a way of fostering a feeling of community in our school. Over the years, families and individuals in our school community were supported and assisted during both difficult times and more joyful occasions. We would like to continue to offer help to families at Saint Columbas.
Thank you everyone for always supporting the Pastoral Care Team and we look forward to continuing our yearly events being the Easter Raffle, Mother’s Day Breakfast and Father’s Day Breakfast.

Religious Education and Curriculum News
From our Year 6’s
We had a lot of fun trying to put toothpaste back in a tube using toothpicks. We learnt a valuable lesson: just as the toothpaste couldn’t all be placed back in the tube, our hurtful words and actions cannot be taken back. A friend may forgive, but they will seldom forget. We must be kind always. We also worked in our Ministry groups to design posters explaining what we do in each group and these posters will be placed around the school.
Our Literacy work in Year 6 is heavily based on the genre of Information Report Writing. We will be learning researching and note making skills and our Comprehension work will complement this by focusing on Finding the Main Idea, Distinguishing Between Facts and Opinions and Summarising. It is going to be an exciting term!
