Principal's Post

Dear Families of St Columba’s,

Thank you to our Year One Students and Teachers for their Easter Assembly last Friday. I’m sure you would agree, their Easter Bunny Song and Dance reminded us of the hope and joy of new life that the Easter Season brings.

As we conclude this term, I wish to thank our teachers, education assistants, office and grounds staff in the many ways they support our students to develop to their full potential and partner with you as parents in the educational program for your child.

Below are some of my highlights from this term:

  • Witnessing the Baptism of nine of our students;
  • A fun filled swimming carnival;
  • Meeting many parents and families through Kiss N Drive, P&F Meetings and IEP Meetings;
  • Stations of the Cross led by Year 6 students last Friday night.

Our Year 6 students will lead the School Community in the Stations of the Cross, tomorrow Thursday 6 April. This will commence at 2.00pm in St Columba’s Church. All parents and families are welcome to attend.

I congratulate our Year 6 students in leading the Stations of the Cross for the St Columba’s Parish last Friday night. The angelic voices of our choir, focused and convincing actors and confident narrating made it a very powerful reflection of Jesus’ journey from being condemned by Pilot to his death.

At the conclusion of this term, there are some staffing updates to announce for the commencement of Term 2:

Some extra support time has been built into our MINILIT and MACQLIT Reading Intervention Program. Mr Ric Carbone and Mrs Jennifer Scott, will take on additional responsibilities in these classes from next term.

Miss Claudia Napoli, Education Assistant in Year 2, will be concluding her contract with us this week. Claudia is commencing her final teaching practicum next term. Claudia, we wish you a successful and joy filled experience.

Mrs Lisa Slocum will return full time to administration next term. Mrs Lisa Merendino has been working at the reception desk on Monday and Tuesday. No matter how busy, Lisa M remained calm and didn’t miss a beat. The teachers and children of Year 2 are blessed to have Mrs Merendino join them once again in the classroom.

Miss Giorgia Raso’s contract also comes to an end this term, but we look forward to welcoming her back as she completes her final teaching practicum in Year 4 with Mrs Jenny McCleod.

We welcome two new education assistants, Larissa Filocamo and Adrianna Xavier, who will be supporting across various areas.

I wish you a joyous Easter and a peaceful break with your family, friends and loved ones. I look forward to welcoming you back to a new term, commencing on Wednesday 26 April.

P&F Hayshed Hill Wine Fundraiser

Once again we have partnered with Hayshed Hill to run a wine fundraiser. For every case of wine sold Hayshed Hill will donate $40 back to the school P&F to pay for the new playground equipment being installed in July. So pass the form around to family and friends so they can benefit from the great wine prices and help support the P&F in our mission.

This fundraiser will run through the month of April and into May so there is plenty of time to share the love. We need to reach a minimum of 20 cases to be eligible for free delivery so please pass the order form on to family and friends. Delivery of wine to the school will be Thursday 11th of May, pick up available from St Columba’s from Friday the 12th.

Use the form attached to this newsletter to place an order. Any questions please email Simonne Moretta on simonnemoretta@gmail.com

Our next P&F meeting is Tuesday 16 May at 7.00pm in the library.

Items for the agenda must be submitted by 5.00pm Friday 12 May.  Any items after this time will be tabled for the next meeting.

Please note that we have moved to online payments using a secure payment gateway (Stripe).

The P&F bank account that was used last year for EFT transfers is now closed and we are not able to accept EFT payments. Anything not paid online will need to go to the office in cash.

Cut off dates for events are important as we need to give suppliers and volunteers time to order and purchase supplies. We leave cut off times as long as we possibly can and send out SMS reminders, but we will not able to accept late orders moving forward.

Religious Education and Curriculum News

From our Year 6’s:

The Easter Vigil is rich in symbolism and is the most important liturgy of the Church calendar. The Year 6’s have been learning about the four ceremonies that make up the Easter Vigil, along with the Key Symbols; Light, Water & the Paschal Candle.

From our Pre-Kindy students:

In Pre-Kindy White we love to sit outside and play our musical instruments to our favourite Wiggles songs. We are also really good at sharing the instruments and taking turns. PKW rock! 🎵 🎶

Leake Street underpass closure – Friday 31 March to Thursday 13 April

The Leake Street pedestrian underpass will temporarily close from Friday 31 March to Thursday 13 April to safely complete works for the METRONET New Bayswater Station project. Works include the installation of 16 pre-cast concrete box culverts (tunnel like structures), drainage, lighting and concreting.

This closure will include one week of the school term (Friday 31 March to Thursday 6 April). During this time, please use the shared path at the King William Street subway where traffic controllers will be in place to safely guide pedestrians and cyclists.

The Leake Street underpass will reopen on Friday 14 April.

From late Friday 14 April until early Monday 17 April, the King William Street-Whatley Crescent intersection will be closed for the removal of the old Bayswater bridge. These works have been planned consecutively to ensure one rail crossing is always maintained for pedestrians.

Information on changed traffic conditions for the METRONET New Bayswater Station Project is available at www.metronet.wa.gov.au or info@metronet.wa.gov.au .
